The city will host a public input meeting to discuss potential design elements of North Third Street corridor improvements on Tuesday, July 22 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Hall. The meeting format is open, and the public may stop by anytime throughout the evening to provide input.
The Transportation Bond, passed in 2006, includes $5 million for improvements to the North Third Street corridor. This street is a major gateway corridor into downtown as well as an integral part of the Cape Fear Historic Byway.
The project includes streetscape improvements for North Third Street beginning at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway intersection and extending southward to Market Street. It will include installation of additional sidewalks and sidewalk improvements, new trees, street lights, pedestrian safety enhancements and some funding for underground power.
