Our Environmental Planning team seeks to integrate natural resource and environmental service benefit protection into planning and development efforts. By evaluating environmental conditions across the city, we can improve availability and access to natural areas and public spaces while fostering sustainable development that protects and restores our environment.
Towards this goal, the team evaluates various types of project plans against the Create Wilmington Comprehensive Plan, which includes a valuable section on the Environment and Natural Resources, to implement projects that best support the community’s needs while protecting/promoting the natural environment. The Land Development Code, which all plans are analyzed under, includes a section on environmental planning that includes rules and regulations for developments that are intended to protect our natural environment.
