Here are the current vacancies on boards, committees, and commissions

City Hall/Thalian Hall

The City of Wilmington is seeking volunteers for the following boards, commissions, and committees:

Commission on African-American History

The Commission on African-American History plans, develops, and implements community projects to recognize and increase the awareness of the contributions of African-Americans to Wilmington's history; to encourage and assist African-American history; to recognize sites in the community that are significant to African-American history.

The Commission meets the first Monday of each month, 4 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers, 102 North 3rd Street, Wilmington.

Two terms expire in November 2024. Appointments are made by City Council to serve for a three-year term.

Convention Center Advisory Committee

The Committee provides the City and the convention center manager on-going advice about the operation of the convention center.

The Committee meets the fourth Monday of the month at 2 p.m. at the Wilmington Convention Center, 10 Convention Center Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401

One term for an on-site hotel expired; another term for hotelier expires in December. Appointments are made by City Council to serve for a three-year term.

Loan Review Board

The Loan Review Board reviews and approves loans funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

The Board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at 929 N. Front St., Wilmington, NC.

The Board is seeking two alternates to serve as needed.

Board of Adjustment

The City of Wilmington Board of Adjustment (BOA) regularly reviews requests for waivers and variances to the Land Development Code (LDC), appeals of administrative decisions, and appeals of decisions of the Historic Preservation Commission and Housing Appeals Board.

The Board meets the third Thursday of each month at 1:00 P.M. in City Council Chambers, City Hall, 102 North 3rd Street, 2nd floor, Wilmington.

The Board is seeking two additional alternates to serve as needed, pending City Council approval.
