The Finance Department is responsible for all financial transactions to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll, cash receipts, procurement, grant reporting, financial statements, statutory reports, and financial management.
Financial Management
The Financial Management division of the Finance Department focuses on the city’s financial services, including debt issuance and administration, cash and investments management, payroll, accounts payable, financial reporting and accounting, grants administration, and capital assets tracking.
A History of Excellence
The Government Finance Officer Association has awarded the City of Wilmington a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report, consecutively, since 1984. Due to the City's low debt ratio, sound financial management and strong local economy, the City has "AAA" bond ratings from the leading bond rating agencies.
