Acquired by the city in 1990, the Hemenway Community Center was originally used as an externally-operated recreation site, then as a Wilmington Police substation before falling under the purview of the Parks and Recreation department.

The building is managed by Voyage, a nonprofit with a mission to connect youth with pathways to success. The organization's goal is to interrupt the cycle of multi-generational poverty in the community by increasing self-sufficiency, social cohesion, collective efficacy, and economic stability.

The community center features multipurpose rooms, a computer room, and a kitchen.
