Parks & Trails

The City of Wilmington is a vibrant area replete with parks and walking trails. With more than 40 parks and 32 miles of trails, there is a park or trail to suit every need. In addition to these, the City of Wilmington owns/maintains 13 softball/baseball fields (including one Miracle Field), 34 multi-purpose athletic fields (including two synthetic fields), 18 basketball courts, 4 recreation centers, 3 pools, 2 golf courses, 2 amphitheaters, and 1 skatepark.

What are our Levels of Care? Why do we use them?

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) identifies six levels of maintenance ranging from the highest (1) to the lowest (6). These standards are benchmarked against current and past maintenance practices, the nature and needs of each park plus the amenities within each location. The weather, variations in seasonal growing, hardscapes/fences and available staffing all impact levels of service.
