Olsen Park features a Miracle Field, which has a special rubberized turf playing surface that enables individuals with mobility issues to participate in a variety of different sports. Bases are inlaid to allow participants utilizing wheelchairs and other mobility devices freedom to navigate. Unlike miracle fields in other parts of the country, the Wilmington field was built to accommodate adults as well as children.
Users of the field include children from special education classes, nursing home residents, veterans' program participants including Wounded Warriors and Special Olympics athletes. Programming at the Miracle Field is managed by Access Wilmington.
Adjacent to the Miracle Field is the Kiwanis Miracle Playground, which is the largest accessible playground in the southeast. More than 150 volunteers came out for playground build day. The playground was funded with a combination of Wilmington and New Hanover County bond funds, donations from the local Kiwanis Club and Wilmington Believes in Miracles campaign.
