Field Services Bureau

Uniform Patrol Division

The City of Wilmington is divided into six districts. The UPD is staffed by one Captain, two Lieutenants serving as Assistant Division Commanders, five Lieutenants who serve as Watch Commanders and 13 Sergeants.

Each Lieutenant is assigned to a platoon. Their duties include, but are not limited to, tracking crime trends and assigning personnel accordingly, acting as liaison between the community and the department and management of officer personnel.

The officers are assigned to four 12-hour permanent shifts which cover the 24-hour period. Under the Geographic Based Policing model, officers are assigned to specific areas in their district for routine patrol, answering calls for service, acting as community coordinators for proactive police response, and conducting preliminary investigations.

For more information about your district please view the Police District Map(PDF, 800KB).
