Overview

The voter-approved transportation bond included intersection improvements in and around Pine Grove Drive. A comprehensive traffic analysis was conducted to look at the best way to implement these improvements. The analysis looked at the area as a whole, taking into account the ripple effect that occurs when traffic patterns are changed at a nearby location.

In early 2020, City Council approved an engineering contract to design four projects based on results of the traffic study. Council approved the design of the following improvements that, combined, will improve traffic flow, reduce the number of vehicular conflict points, and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.

Pine Grove North

Improvements are being made to the intersections of Pine Grove Drive/Oleander Drive and Pine Grove Drive/MacMillan Avenue. These improvements will realign the intersection of Pine Grove Drive and Oleander Drive, add a traffic signal and provide signalized pedestrian crossings with marked crosswalks at the existing and new intersections.

• Anticipate Completion of Right-of-Way Acquisition: Early 2024
• Final Construction Documents: Summer 2024
• Begin Construction: Fall 2024 (duration approximately 12 months)

Pine Grove South

Improvements are planned for the Pine Grove Drive/Holly Tree Road intersection. The intersection will receive traffic signal improvements, additional turn lanes, a signalized U-turn movement, and signalized pedestrian crossings with marked crosswalks.  A second southbound lane on Pine Grove Drive from Greenville Loop Road to Beasley Road intersection will also be constructed through this intersection as well as a signalized U-turn movement at Beasley Road.

Improvements to the Pine Grove Drive / Greenville Loop Road intersection include a dual lane roundabout at the intersection of Pine Grove Drive and Greenville Loop Road, an additional southbound lane on Pine Grove Drive between Greenville Loop Road and Beasley Road, and pedestrian improvements at the intersection including marked crosswalks.

Also the existing Hewlett’s Creek culvert between Greenville Loop Rd and Holly Tree Rd will be extended to the west to accommodate the additional southbound lane and a section of the Greenville Loop Multi-Use Path that will run through this project corridor mostly on the west side of Pine Grove Drive.
